The enchanting tale of the Windsor chair dates back to the 18th century when King George ll, seeking refuge in a cottage from the elements, discovered a multi-spindled back peasants chair.  Struck by it's exceptional comfort, he commissioned  a series of these chairs  for Windsor Castle.
